We are pleased to announce that KnowledgeTree Drop Box is now out of Beta.

This releases includes a number of bug fixes and performance enhancements, and a new feature that allows successful new uploads of documents and folders even when KnowledgeTree Drop Box has been idle for longer than the session timeout period.

Overview

KnowledgeTree Drop Box is a desktop tool for Microsoft Windows users that allows you to quickly and easiy drag and drop documents and folders from the Microsoft Windows desktop, or from directories within Microsoft Windows Explorer, onto the KnowledgeTree Drop Box. Content is uploaded straight into KnowledgeTree, and temporary quick access links to the dropped documents folder in the repository are listed on your KnowledgeTree Dashboard.

Enhancements

  • Start and end session on every upload job queue to avoid session expiry.

This feature allows successful new uploads even when KnowledgeTree Drop Box is idle for longer than session timeout.


Installation and Upgrades

Pre-requisites:

  • A KnowledgeTreeLive account; or, KnowledgeTree on-premise edition installed (from version 3.5.3)
  • Microsoft Windows client machine
  • Microsoft .Net Framework version 2.0


How to Install KnowledgeTree Drop Box

  1. Download KnowledgeTree Drop Box.
  2. Run setup.exe to install application.
  3. Enter server details when prompted.

  • Existing KnowledgeTree customers (KnowledgeTree Commercial on-premise or KnowledgeTreeLive) receive direct links to the download area from KnowledgeTree Sales


Known Issues

  • IWI-356 - Enabling User Account Control (UAC) on Microsoft Windows Vista prevents document upload through KnowledgeTree Drop Box

Using KnowledgeTree Drop Box on Microsoft Windows Vista with User Account Control (UAC) enabled prevents document upload through KnowledgeTree Drop Box. To resolve this issue, disable UAC on Microsoft Windows Visa; then, restart your PC.


Defect Repairs

  • Improved Exception and Error handling
* KnowledgeTree Drop Box was throwing exceptions in the following instances:
- when closing the 'Login Details' dialog after the server connection was dropped
- on document upload, when the connection to KnowledgeTree was down
- on document upload, when incorrect user credentials were configured
- when canceling a document upload in progress
These issues were fixed so that, when attempting file uploads with incorrect Login credentials and/or the network is 
down, the mouse cursor changes to 'unavailable' when hovered over the KnowledgeTree Drop Box, and user-friendly error 

messages display.

* Feedback not provided when testing an incorrect URL. Fixed. Closed.
* Submitting an exception appears to fail. Fixed. Closed.
* Grammatical errors on error messages and exceptions. Fixed. Closed.


  • KnowledgeTree Drop Box was running on system startup, with ‘Run on System Startup’ disabled. Fixed. Closed.
  • Uploads through KnowledgeTree Drop Box pointing to a remote (Linux) server causes an exception. Fixed. Closed.
  • When upgrading KnowledgeTree Drop Box, the server URL, username and password were not persisted. Fixed. Closed.
  • File drop area was transparent. Fixed. Closed.
  • KnowledgeTree Drop Box re-installs the second time it is run. Fixed. Closed.
  • On license expiry, quitting KnowledgeTree Drop Box via the system tray right-click menu 'Exit' option was not closing the application. Fixed. Closed.
  • On uninstall, KnowledgeTree Drop Box is launched and KnowledgeTree website is opened. Fixed. Closed.
  • Edited fields in the KnowledgeTree Drop Box XML file do not update with uploaded documents. Fixed. Closed.
